Description
An elaborately painted rectangular coffin from the tomb of the nomarch Djehutynakht at Deir el-Bersha, dating to the First Intermediate Period. The coffins of this era show distinctive regional artistic styles.
About the First Intermediate Period
A period of political fragmentation following the collapse of the Old Kingdom. Regional governors (nomarchs) gained autonomy, and artistic styles diversified across the provinces.
