Abu Simbel Temples
Description
The twin rock-cut temples of Ramesses II and Queen Nefertari, carved into the mountainside around 1264 BCE. The four colossal seated figures of Ramesses at the entrance each stand 20 meters tall. Relocated in the 1960s UNESCO campaign to save them from the rising waters of Lake Nasser.
About the New Kingdom (Empire Age)
Egypt's imperial zenith. The warrior pharaohs expanded borders from Nubia to the Euphrates. The Valley of the Kings was established, and art reached unprecedented heights.
